A Brief History of Roselle Farm

Roselle Farm is the home of Brendon and Paula, their two children Thomas and Hannah, and Brendon’s mother Annette Cross. This family farm has been in operation for six generations. In 1863, James McCartney, Brendon’s great-great-great-grandfather, purchased 20 hectares at the top of Weir Road to milk cows. The milk was sold to a local creamery, and skim milk was used to fatten pigs.

By 1925, Joseph Cross expanded the farm with 48 hectares at the bottom of Weir Road, naming it “Roselle.” The farm transitioned to raising sheep exclusively by 1957. Significant developments were made in the 1970s and 1980s under Ron and Annette Cross, including improved access, fencing, and extensive tree planting for land stabilization.

Since 1998, Brendon and Paula have managed the property, adding seven lease blocks to the farming entity. Today, Roselle Farm spans 525 acres with approximately 1,500 sheep, a small herd of beef cattle, and a strong focus on sustainability and land stewardship.

We’ve come along way…

At Roselle Farm we are passionate about sheep and lamb’s wool and it’s many qualities. Here are some of its notable attributes:

Natural Insulation

Wool is an excellent insulator, keeping you warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather due to its natural breathability.

Odour-Resistant

Wool naturally resists odours due to its ability to wick moisture and the presence of lanolin, which has antibacterial properties.

Flame-Resistant

Wool is naturally fire-resistant and meets many safety standards without requiring chemical treatments.

Eco-Friendly

Wool is a renewable and biodegradable resource, making it sustainable. Sheep naturally grow wool, which regrows after shearing.

Soft and Comfortable

Modern wool processing techniques produce finer, softer wool, like merino wool, which is comfortable even for sensitive skin.

Biodegradable

When discarded, wool decomposes naturally, enriching the soil with nutrients.

Versatile

Wool is used in a variety of products, from clothing (coats, sweaters, socks) to home goods (carpets, blankets).

Overall, sheep’s wool combines comfort, practicality, and sustainability, making it one of the most versatile natural fibres available.

Roselle Farm Accommodation hosts many wool products, including:
